Will E-Rupi End The Digital Gap?

In India, there is a huge digital break, and this passage gives rise to many problems. To deal with this issue, on 2 August 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched E-Rupi. The joint effort of the National Payment Corporation Of India, Department of Financial Services, Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare, and National Health Authority have made the dream possible. The purpose of this platform is to ensure cashless transactions to the account of the beneficiary. It helps in curing the problems of a digitally challenged person, says Moksh Popli.

The next question is this E-Rupi going to work? Wherewith it is going to end the digital gap, or will it? How the platform benefits the population? E-Rupi works as an SMS-based voucher system or QR code-based system. The citizen or beneficiary will have to show the e-voucher or the QR code to the concerned authority, and it solves the problem. With a verification message on the taker's number, the payment will get confirmed. Many banks are board partners in this initiative, says Moksh Popli.

One needs to know is that these vouchers are specific, and they can be individual-specific or purpose-specific. If the voucher is for ration, then the beneficiary can only redeem it for the same. There are some advantages, and this may end the digital gap among the Indian community. One of the main advantages is that the concerned person does not require any card or digital payment app or internet banking, and it will resolve the problem.

The main objective to launch E-Rupi is to ensure that the welfare services are reaching the citizens in every corner. Ordinary people don't have to suffer anymore. Unquestionably, we are cognizant of the fact that not everyone is as informed of the digital world. Still, a huge ration of the population is ignorant of Internet access. E-Rupi is SMS based voucher generating system, and it does not ask for Internet or any digital banking. This will turn into a remedy for many people, says Moksh Popli.

There are nearly 190 million citizens without bank accounts, or at times, they did not know about the welfare schemes. This step will involve every citizen of India financially, and they will be able to earn profit from the social projects. E-Rupi, can contribute to advancing the GDP and unlock new gateways of possibility.

However, there is one loophole in the entire process. E-Rupi doesn't require the beneficiary to disclose their identity, and hence, it's confidential. It can result in that anyone can claim the benefits if no one cross-checks the details. Hopefully, the government will take care of it, and this transaction system reaches heights and prove a magnificent asset for India, says Moksh Popli.
